Ready for BSI audits.Demonstrably secure.

We help operators of critical infrastructure implement state-of-the-art IT security, uncover vulnerabilities and prepare audit-ready evidence for the BSI.

Is your company affected?

Are you affected?

Critical infrastructure keeps the population supplied. If its systems fail, shortages and threats to public safety follow. The German KRITIS umbrella act assigns it to ten sectors:

Legal requirements

Under the German BSI Act, operators of critical facilities count as particularly important entities. The stricter duties from the implementation of the EU NIS-2 directive apply to them.

  1. Reporting

Significant security incidents are reported to the joint reporting office of BSI and BBK.

  2. State of the art

Risk management measures must follow the state of the art and take relevant standards into account.

  3. Resilience

Backups, disaster recovery and crisis management keep operations running when it matters.

Five duties for operators of critical facilities

What the BSI Act and the KRITIS umbrella act require

Operators of critical facilities have clear duties towards the BSI, from registration to regular evidence. The German KRITIS umbrella act adds physical resilience duties such as risk analysis and a resilience plan.

  1. Register

Operators register via the joint BSI and BBK portal and stay reachable at all times (Section 33 BSIG).

    • Name, address, contact details and public IP ranges
    • Sector and competent supervisory authorities
    • Keep the details up to date when they change
  2. Report incidents

Significant security incidents go to the joint BSI and BBK reporting office on time, in three stages (Section 32 BSIG).

    • 24 hours: early warning
    • 72 hours: notification with a first assessment
    • 1 month: final report with cause and remedy
  3. IT security

Attack detection systems are mandatory and analyse operations continuously and automatically (Section 31 BSIG).

    • Zero-trust architecture and TLS encryption
    • Structured logging and monitoring
    • Security checks in the CI/CD pipeline
  4. Risk management

Risk management to the state of the art with the minimum measures of Section 30 BSIG, anchored in the development process.

    • Risk analysis, emergency management and backups
    • Supply chain, training and cryptography
    • Access control and multi-factor authentication
  5. Provide evidence

Implementation must be proven every three years through audits, inspections or certifications (Section 39 BSIG).

    • Submit results and deficiencies to the BSI
    • Management implements and monitors (Section 38 BSIG)
    • Regular training, liability for violations

Six steps in our KRITIS audit

How our KRITIS audit works

Six steps to audit-ready evidence

From scope definition through analysis and implementation to audit preparation.

  1. Step 1

    Intake and scope definition

We record which critical services, systems and sites belong in the audit scope.

    • Process analysis (BPMN)
    • Initial assessment
  2. Step 2

    Gap analysis against legal requirements

Your security level compared with the BSI Act, the KRITIS ordinance, NIS-2 and sector-specific security standards.

    • Gap analysis
  3. Step 3

    Architecture review and vulnerability analysis

Analysis of repositories and deployment pipelines, review of documentation and development process.

    • Code review
    • Findings ranked by criticality
    • Cost overview
  4. Step 4

    Process development

Coaching for development and steering teams, focused on a process that is lived and auditable.

    • Roles and RACI
    • Change and release management
    • Incident and emergency processes
    • Risk checks in every sprint
    • Audit-ready documentation
    • Security champions
  5. Step 5

    Software development and deployment

Changes in Python, Java and .NET on the backend, Angular and React on the frontend. Running on AWS, Azure or on premises.

    • Zero trust with Keycloak and FGA
    • OAuth2/OIDC, ReBAC, JWT
    • Key Vault, AES-256, TLS 1.3, Argon2id
    • OpenTelemetry, PII masking
    • SonarQube, Trivy, SAST/DAST
